Just out of curiosity has anyone experience in blocking torrent or certain traffic over a network? Bigpond as you know counts upload data against your monthly bandwidth. My step daughter came home yesterday (she kinda lives with her BF) and I have seen our daily upload total go from about 300MB max to 8GB in the last two days. I get 200 gigs a month. To spend 5 of it ( a grand total of about 5%) solely on uploading torrents is a bit rediculous. I asked her two days ago to ensure when she came home to set her upload to a max of 5 kb/s. Apparently the message hasn't gotten through and she's quickly on her way to getting us shaped with seeding torrents. To hell with everyone else and what they might want to do with the internet.
I can't block the ports. Torrent programs normally use a wide range. This range covers so much that is used its not funny.
I can only restrict her overall bandwidth and even then it is only in QOS which does more priority than anything.
I have a program I have setup on my server to monitor net traffic called Wfilter. It seems nice but has a very steep learning curve. Anyone have any experience with attempting to do what I am getting at? Any recommendations settings or software?
