User Guide: Building

This guide will have many parts. In the first we will talk about protection.

This topic is under construction. In the meantime feel free to check out This Video!

PROTECTION

Not protecting your creations can lead to your things being stolen or destroyed. The Rolyd Staff enjoy playing the game, not repairing your things when you fail to ask for protection. Protection of your land will make it so only players you designate can build there. This is typically done in a 3D cube shape. It can stretch as low underground, high in the air and expand outward sideways as big as you wish. Keep in mind we're not going to give you a massive area for just one little house. Protection should also be requested as soon as possible. In order to do protection we need four things. We need the height, depth and how far out sideways you want. We prefer not to protect bedrock to sky since players digging near bedrock level, clearly away from most houses, will hit an invisible barrier. Then we need two opposing corners. It should look like this....
(*)_________________________|
|...........................................|
|...........................................|
|..................HOUSE...............|
|...........................................|
|...........................................|
|__________________________(*)

The two points you see with a (*) means these are the two points we need plus the depth and height in order to protect. Everything inside these two corners with the height and depth will form a 3D box of protection. You may give us specific in-game cords by pressing "F3" and writing down the X,Y,Z cords for each of the two corners or you may mark these with some outrageous color wool clearly so we can see it. Please ask for protection via /modreq in game. To use this command simply type /MODREQ (Then your message without these (). Just put your text here.)

Once your land is protected you can build away. Don't forget to protect your doors and chests though using the following commands...

/cprivate

GOOD LOOKING BUILDINGS

What makes a building pretty? Well this is a subjective answer. Lets look at a few things that can make a building ugly...

1. Only one block being used. This can work but its not easy. Even the better looking blocks can make an ugly building when only one type is used.
2. Big squares. Minecraft has enough of them. Try to put a little design behind your builds.
3. Flaming netherrack. Yeah it looks cool but it gets old quick. Try to minimize flames everywhere.
4. Be careful with walls. They can server a nice purpose but try to make them look good.
5. Most people say cobblestone looks like crap. If you must use it why not use it for things like walk paths or the illusions of broken blocks. Nothing wrong with having stone brick with stone brick cracks leading into a couple blocks of cobble. This makes things look a bit more interesting than just cobble.

Re: User Guide: Building

Why would you need protection on your house? The people on this server are nice to each other.

Re: User Guide: Building

Because we don't screen all players joining and many places get greifed. The Staff have no desire to constantly have to stop playing the game to fix player issues when the player doesn't get their land protected. It is something that can easily be done and save the staff so many headaches. Not to mention players have been asked in the past after getting griefed multiple times and ended up loosing nearly everything because eventually we got tied of rolling crap back and restoring things that we eventually told them sorry about your luck.

Re: User Guide: Building

Haha fair enough =P you'd be surprised how many players put off protection and loose everything :p
